Hello,
Does anybody have a F-2B for sale?
slawie
saw a good deal on TalkBass
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=597297&highlight=alembic (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=597297&highlight=alembic)
This (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Alembic-F-2B-Stereo-Preamp-NR_W0QQitemZ110457110835%20target=_blank)just popped up on ebay
I've never seen knobs like that - are those what they originally looked like? The two I own have the red knobs.
I believe the knobs have been replaced on this one.
Keith
Is it the same one as in the TalkBass ad? The TB one has one knob that doesn't match, but the one on eBay has all the same knobs...
The one on talkbass is marked as sold. Interesting that they both had similar non-Alembic knobs.
Could these be the transitional knobs referred to in the F-2B FAQ (http://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=250)? There, Mica writes that ...for a few hundred units, the knobs were all-aluminum with two set-screws and could be found in both black and natural aluminum colors (both colors were anodized). The supplier was Alco.
If so, isn't it interesting that two F-2Bs with transitional knobs went on sale at the same time?
Harry; I'll bet your right! Good catch!
Not sure why I'm so obsessed with the knobs. I am the proud owner of two blue-chassis/red-knobbed F-2Bs, plus a modern-era SF-2. I always get jealous of the San Francisco-produced F-2Bs when they show up...
Just for fun/reference, here's a pic of mine, blue with red knobs with on blue table with purple flowers:

What a pity the chap will not ship internationally.
If I gave someone the cash would they ship it on to me - to Australia?
I just need to use their US delivery address.
I know this is somewhat of a big ask.
One more question what about the supply power. Is it switchable 110V/240V or can
Alembic sell me the correct transformer for it?
It's getting a bit curly now!

another sweet deal on TB

F-2B is sold.
Guess it doesn't take long at that price
slawie
Elwoodblue,
Thanks for hooking me up with the ebay auction for the F-2B.
I happened to win it with one bid! Woo Hoo!
Now I need to find out how to make it compatible for 240V.
I guess I will ask the question of Mica.
slawie
Very glad to have helped,
That was a good deal.
Kris
Kris, you are online. Thanks again mate!
Good deal is correct about a month ago an F-2B
sold on eBay Australia for over AU$825.00!
If you ever come to Oz and need a place to stay in Melbourne you are most welcome to crash at my place.
(No I am not some freaky dude!)
slawie
Sweet,
Thanks, Hope to make it there someday : )
cheers
Kris
Congratulations slawie! You will love it! Also, you can send out each channel separately or use the M output to mix both signals.
Don't forget that the flat setting is bass: 2 / mid: 10 / treble: 2
FWIW:
I was at G-Guitars yesterday, and there's a circa '77 red-knob F-2B there. Brian said he wanted around $500 for it.....
This is a pic of the device I wonder if it's vintage can be determined somehow. The chap stated that they are the orginal knobs. Location on the back is Santa Rosa CA. slawie I guess these two will sound good together.

Nice Bass! The sound with your new pre-amp will surely please you.
Check out the F-2B FAQ (http://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=250) - it says they switched to the new black collet knobs in about 1990. The original knobs were red, and then for a few hundred units, the knobs were all-aluminum with two set-screws and could be found in both black and natural aluminum colors (both colors were anodized). So it MIGHT be safe to assume that your unit is late-'80s/1990 or so.
Are you going to run it stereo with that killer Series I?
Yes Harry,
I am building up a new rig and am planning to get a Phonic Xp 2000 power amp to drive the speaker sets which
will be a pair of 15's at 300watt each and two sets of aluminium cone 2 x 10 cabs.
I had designed and built similar cabs some years ago and had some good success with the first prototype build speakers rated at 100w and a frequency range of 30-28,000Hz.
I left the stuff behind in the US when I came back to Australia and am redisigning the cabs thinking about different type of materials for the cabinets and porting or not.
I have time on my hands and want to get it just right so there will be much experimentation.
Thomas Edison said I have not failed I have just found 10,000 ways that don't work
Thanks for the link.

I have always like that Edison quote !
