I have an old 74 Alembic Guitar, and I want to make it more perty again without doing anything that's a no no for the finish, etc. I'm mostly talking about the wood body as I feel pretty comfortable addressing the metal bits, but all knowing input appreciated!

There are some pics of the beast as it is now in the serial # request section under the heading 74 identity crisis guitar from I think last May. Alas, and unfortunately for me, I need to sell it, hence making it pretty. It will be going to the great auction house in the sky within a week or so.

Damn nice instrument from Alembic's early days.
Finishes that dull off can be restored with a fine polishing paste and buffed with a quality wax polish or Alembic's own liquid polish.
I think an expert evaluation would be needed due to it's age.

That may be an oil finish on that instrument.  The last thing you should put on it is a polishing paste.  If it is an oil finish, it would be best to re-oil it.  I use Watco on my oil finished basses.  I've had the can for decades.  A litle goes a long way, I'll probably never run out.
 
There is probably something better to oil with these days.  Mica would know.
