On Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Alembic-Jerry-Garcia-Tribute-Guitar_W0QQitemZ7364591482QQcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
Did that ship from Alembic like that originally, or was it (i.e., the oval ebony compartment cover with tiger inlay) added later after the fact?
I don't know. It's similar to but not the same as the one on this guitar (http://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=7183).
There is a company that sells exact Tiger inlay replicas, among other Jerry'esque guitar parts. Check out: www.jackofroses.com (http://www.jackofroses.com)

Since the oval basically interferes with one of the jacks I had a strong suspicion that it didn't ship from Alembic that way. IMHO, it devalues the market value of the guitar to have made that non- stock and non-reversible mod.
I still wouldn't mind a Tribute for $2500 anyway, Wink,Wink! LOL!
The inlays pictured on that site are very close to, but still not the same as, the one in the listing.
Kevin; it is a very nice guitar!
Oh, I'm sure it is. Alembics are a tough sell (for premium prices) on the open market unless you're already addicted like those here on the site. Even still, I doubt Alembic Club members would pony up a premium for a modded piece like that. For the right (low) price, I imagine someone will jump on it. Like I said, anything is possible for the right price, LOL!
I've been watching this one too. It's creeping up to the point where I'll lose interest, though. Currently at $3,264.00 with more than 4 days to go and the reserve not met. I suspect it will soon be out of my willingness to reach.
Bill, tgo
I've never seen an oval-inlaid Tribute that had the inlay screwed onto the top.
Jeff; the one I referenced above (http://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=7183) is; scroll down to the bottom of the page for the picture. Makes for a convenient stash.
Not that convenient - you need to be able to wield a small screwdriver, probably in dim lighting, and not scratch the thing up.
Bob; now that you've pointed it out, you're right, it's not all that convenient!
bill
sell me the dark daion and use that for this?
Buffalo Bill is the hi-bidder! I guess you really want that bad-boy! Reserve still not met, though.
Bids are now up to $3801...sorry, Bill. Did anybody notice the non-stock JG-style tailpiece...it's finish doesn't quite match the Alembic bridge. Might be (another?) jack of roses piece.
It's a little tough to tell from the photos, but the tailpiece appears to be brass and ebony and more refined than jack of roses. I suppose it could be a mod, but it looks Alembic to me.
Tom
Auction ended @ $4500, but the reserve was not met.
The guitar is mine -the tailpiece is Alembic. I sent it back to the factory 6 months into ownership. At that visit back home, the electronics were upgraded and the tailpiece was added at my request. It will be going back on ebay soon.
Hi Ron; thanks for the info!
Is the Tiger medallion OEM Alembic or is it aftermarket?
The Tiger is aftermarket made from drawings of Jerry's. It is mother of perl set in ebony
I'm assuming it's just a medallion...in other words, it's not a stash or electronics compartment cover, it's just a wooden medallion screwed to the top of the guitar.
Who made the medallion?
