Guys,
well small world.
My former Spyder 8 string with reverse string setup eE aA dD gG
is now for sale in Germany at No1 Music at a whopping price
of EUR 13500.

I had bought this bass back in time from Bass Central and had sold it back
to the US in 2006.
now it is back in Germany.

Hi Oliver, I saw that last night and thought it might be your old one. Not very many out there! It looks amazing.

senmen

Yeah would love to have it back but at that price?
When I remember the price I paid for it incl duty and tax
it was a real bargain.

Tom, I guess there aren't that much of these around with the
classical string setup.  Most I saw had the reverse setup with
Ee Aa Dd Gg.
BTW this one is Number 08 of 25.
My former V-head 4 string had been 04 of 50

Interesting that this bass found that this bass found its way
Back from the US to Germany.

well i think this bass passed through my hands at one point.  i bought it in 2006 from a guy in germany who i think also had possession of that double neck ( fretless and 8- string) monster bass that i still see around from time to time.
i lost it in divorce, much heartache and grief that I'd rather not go into.
that is a stunning price.  it'll be interesting to see what happens with it.
Been down...now i'm out!

senmen

Well then you bought it from me.  I was the original owner.
The double neck you refer to is the John Judge bass and belonged
to Speicky from Germany at that time.

ha!
it's been so long since I've seen it that i wasn't sure that was the one.  i remember that it had that unusual string setup.
that was one of the coolest basses I've ever owned. it played just like a 4-string and had the most awesome and unique sound that I've ever heard.
i really miss that old gal and I've shed many a tear about her since our parting ( the bass, that is).  i almost thought about making a play for it but i just depleted my bass budget on another pretty awesome instrument so I'll have to move on even though it pains me greatly.
i used to gig with that bass.  it caused a stir wherever we'd go.  for sure 🤠

Guys,
I am currently in conversation with them about the bass.
Wish me luck, maybe it is coming back to me after
14 years.

well, when you're done with it, give me a shout, maybe we can make a deal and it'll be deja vu all over again 🤡

My Hagstrom 8 is eEaAdDgG. I have always thought it was setup that way for thumb or pick style playing.

senmen

Yeah ideal for pick playing.  That is also how JE's 8 string Spyders we're strung.
Reverse setup Ee Aa Dd Gg more suitable for finger plucking.
I think all the old rsp. classic 8 strings had the classical setup.

Well after a deep thought on this I will step out of this.
Too much money for a used Spyder.
