Guys,
well small world.
My former Spyder 8 string with reverse string setup eE aA dD gG
is now for sale in Germany at No1 Music at a whopping price
of EUR 13500.
I had bought this bass back in time from Bass Central and had sold it back
to the US in 2006.
now it is back in Germany.

Hi Oliver, I saw that last night and thought it might be your old one. Not very many out there! It looks amazing.
Yeah would love to have it back but at that price?
When I remember the price I paid for it incl duty and tax
it was a real bargain.
Tom, I guess there aren't that much of these around with the
classical string setup. Most I saw had the reverse setup with
Ee Aa Dd Gg.
BTW this one is Number 08 of 25.
My former V-head 4 string had been 04 of 50
Interesting that this bass found that this bass found its way
Back from the US to Germany.

well i think this bass passed through my hands at one point. i bought it in 2006 from a guy in germany who i think also had possession of that double neck ( fretless and 8- string) monster bass that i still see around from time to time.
i lost it in divorce, much heartache and grief that I'd rather not go into.
that is a stunning price. it'll be interesting to see what happens with it.
Well then you bought it from me. I was the original owner.
The double neck you refer to is the John Judge bass and belonged
to Speicky from Germany at that time.

ha!
it's been so long since I've seen it that i wasn't sure that was the one. i remember that it had that unusual string setup.
that was one of the coolest basses I've ever owned. it played just like a 4-string and had the most awesome and unique sound that I've ever heard.
i really miss that old gal and I've shed many a tear about her since our parting ( the bass, that is). i almost thought about making a play for it but i just depleted my bass budget on another pretty awesome instrument so I'll have to move on even though it pains me greatly.
i used to gig with that bass. it caused a stir wherever we'd go. for sure 🤠
small world indeed :D
Guys,
I am currently in conversation with them about the bass.
Wish me luck, maybe it is coming back to me after
14 years.

well, when you're done with it, give me a shout, maybe we can make a deal and it'll be deja vu all over again 🤡
Will do!
We will see how it turns out.

Threats great, hope it works out!
Thank you Rob!
My Hagstrom 8 is eEaAdDgG. I have always thought it was setup that way for thumb or pick style playing.
Yeah ideal for pick playing. That is also how JE's 8 string Spyders we're strung.
Reverse setup Ee Aa Dd Gg more suitable for finger plucking.
I think all the old rsp. classic 8 strings had the classical setup.

Well after a deep thought on this I will step out of this.
Too much money for a used Spyder.

But a New one is now $22,000 USD !
arrgh!
I was afraid you'd say that. it looks like it is no longer for sale, so now i won't have to go out and do something to raise the funds.
i really stretched the budget when i bought my last bass and I can't take another hit like that this soon.
I've see other basses from my old collection around, first time I've actually had a shot at getting one back.
i think i'm rambling, time to sign off...
just got a reverb email looks like it's back, i think the price went up ? 🤔

Yeah stepped out of it.
Too much money in EUR.

A lot of money in UK Pounds too.
Nice bass though and something that appeals to me on a pure indulgence level as there is no genre I play at the moment that would warrant 8 strings and a bass that stands out as much as this would.
well if it makes ya feel any better, there's a guy selling what appears to be an authentic alembic 8-string bass bridge for cheap:

he's also got a pair of KT-88'S for $899 USD 🤯
as long as i'm reviving old threads, looks like this one sold. i'd be morbidly interested to see what kind of deal got cut.
Guys,
for reference here are the photos taken by No.1 of my
former Spyder 8 No. 08 of 25, now being owned by George aka geepee.

Oliver,
It must be hard letting that go.
I have heard some of the stuff George is doing with that bass now. You should be happy to know that he is bringing the Thunder!!!
Pauldo,
yeah it was hard but I have my principles not to buy anything back
that I once sold. Also, the price tag was really too high for me at
13500 Euros for a used Spyder compared to what I paid for it new
15 years ago.
But on the other hand when I see the price increase. 😎
