Love the fact that he upgraded the pickups. Still no Series I, but for under 2 grand... why not? hah
if this wasn't on the opposite side of the country from me, I'd be all over it. pretty awesome.
@ darkstar....out of curiosity---what does being on the other side of the country have to do with the purchase?
This thing is amazing! I'm a newbie in regard to ownership of all things Alembic and, if I wasn't interested in (eventually) owning a Series I, I'd consider this thing.
Odd pickup upgrade. If the internals of the bass mimic a Series I, then it's set up with the dummy. Alembic wouldn't use an AXY in that config, so I wonder how it all fits together. It obviously works since he was happy and Alembic likely knew the application when they sold him the pickups. Would this just be a little less open in tone than using proper Series pickups?
I can't make out much from the picture of the control cavity. So, AXY pickups with the original Kawai electronics? The listing didn't make that clear (at least to me).
Looks like a pretty cleanly built homebrew DS5!!

It's just not right to look in the cavity and see foil . . . .

You can use AXY with Series electronics, you have to turn the hum balance controls off.
Anybody bought this?
