Here's a nice looking Spoiler on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1982-Alembic-Spoiler-Bass-Natural-Finish_W0QQitemZ370089541009QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item370089541009&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) from the decal generation.
Sweet bass, an early specimen. Haven't seen any of those before.
Active and passive modes??????
Bill, tgo
Is that really Koa?
Wood looks a lot like my '83 Koa Spoiler, so I guess it is.
I think all early Spoilers had a solid Koa body...
Yes, and the earliest ones had decals instead of bronze logos.
The pics look a bit unnaturally light to me. I had an '82 solid koa and it looked more orange than this. The ebony looks sort of light brown, too, so I think the balance on the photos might be a bit off.
My 83 (now black) was solid koa. I was under the impression that the first runs were that way. The Kaman ad featured the solid koa type. In 86 I was able to get the different top and Alembic chose a purpleheart body for the quilt maple top. Of course with Alembics there are exceptions and one offs.
As far as I know, the earliest ones were solid koa.
I've had two '83 Spoilers (still have one of them) one Yellowish and one brownish (Both solid Koa, see pics)

@ Danno: Please tell me you did not paint that beautiful Koa Black?! That's heresy! (finally got to use the angry smiley ) Edit: There are some '83 Spoilers in the showcase section with a top, I guess somewhere in the second half of '83 the Koa wasn't standard on the spoilers anymore...
