Good price, but with a hefty mod (for real) Can be strung up like a 7 string it seems (with the highest strings as pair like on an 8 string)
That is a real nice Orion!
What a Hack Job! Why a 7th string? Strung backwards due to limited headstock real estate. Then hacking the heal with a tuner. The bridge saddle for that 7th string isn't even in the correct location. I don't think the job was completed as there would be some chipping away on the front of the headstock where that string would have to make that sharp 90 degree bend.
Hah, did not notice the bridge saddle :-)
I'm pretty sure the idea is the same as you see on 9 string guitars, the kind that has the 3 highest strings doubled. (twelve string sound on high strings, 6 string sound on low strings.)
Apparently someone wanted that on this six string bass, but only for one string... (and misplaced the saddle while reassembling the bridge?)
I was gonna' have a little bit of fun with that one earlier today... was working on a punchline about tootin' a horn. Couldn't pull it together. Then I did something stupid/expensive in the shop, and had to deal with that...
*Takeo-san originally posted on this Orion a while back. I can't remember when, but I remember the unusual mod and that it was in Japan.
Look out y'all , Miles has risen from the grave :o
I'm surprised this was done in Japan as I thought they would have more reverence to the artistry of Alembics.....this mod looks more like an idea cooked up in my old 8th grade wood shop class! ::) ;) ;D And where did the logo go????
