For anyone that does recording here, whats the easiest and least expensive way of recording using a laptop PC? Not looking to make an album here, just record ideas using multiplke tracks...
Depends on how many tracks you want to record, whether you want to use midi, vst plug-ins, etc. I would highly recommend both the Lexicon Omega and the Presonus Firebox as entry-level interfaces. Good software will make a huge difference as well.

thanks...i had been using a korg d1600, but Im now trying to cut down on the amount of gear i have. I figured since I have a laptop PC i could just use that. Any idea on the advantages/disadvantages to using a pc for recording over the korg?
How many tracks do you need to record simultaneously?
probably most at any one time would be 4..and thats in rare cases...mostly its for me to record musical ideas, and maybe overdub some guitar over bass tracks.
Cool Edit Pro. I think it's now called Adobe Audition or something like that. It supports multiple sound cards/devices and multi-track. recording.
Audacity [ http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) ] is another neat and useful one, and it's free...

I would recommend the Presonus Firebox, or the Firepod if you have the money. I'm personally a big fan of the Cubase software. Cubase SE would be perfect for what you want to do, and not too steep at $99. The free stuff is greatly lacking, IMO. Like most things, you get what you pay for.

great, thanks guys!
