Here is some nice early footage of Jimmy playing with Alan Holdsworth in Japan. This features a really cool bass solo near the end of the track - plenty of nice Alembic visual footage throughout.

WOW - three of my favs on one tour. Holdsworth, Wackerman, and Johnson - so cool. Way back in high school, about 4 or 5 of us were really into Holdsworth - no one else had a clue. Being in flyover territory, another group not seen. Thank God RTF has been here at least 2x.

nice vid!
for more great jimmy, youtube 'wayne johnson trio'. great live stuff!
Yikes, who are them youngsters? Ha!
Thanks for the kind words. That's another amazing and unusual Allan tune, one of my faves.
And for you Series bass historians (is such a thing?) that is 82 2252, a graphite necked bass which was only fretted for a short time - including this Japan tour (Holdsworth's first). Soon after it became a fretless and now serves as a backup to my main fretless; 80 1467.
Cheers,
Jimmy J
Series Bass Historian is here.
Thanks, Jimmy.
Serial No. 1467 is 79' range and No.1467 is LSG series 2 that I know.
Your bass No. is 1667 ? (1567 is MSB)

Yes, there are a few of us youngsters still out here!
IMO, one of the most beautiful solos I've ever heard....'Marina', from Grasshopper.
Singing fretless tone, melodic....and when you threw in that short flurry @5:01, had I not been sitting down, I would've fallen down!
Lastly, Jimmy, 'One More Reason' from Tom Howard's View From The Bridge....fabulous!
(yes, I still have the album)
Thanks to youtube, it's available---

Jimmy, your gig with Alan at the Glasgow Ferry two years ago still remains my favourite ever live bass performance. The combination of sublime playing & wonderful tonality! It was an added bonus chewing the fat with you too :-)
Make sure you come back again!
Eiji! Of course! You know more about Alembic than ... well ... anybody! I will take a close look at the '80 when I get home and post an update. It's definitely a long scale graphite fretless - Series I - but I'll check the number.
Jay, thanks for all that. The Tom Howard record was maybe even before that youtube clip... I don't know if I even have a copy of that... Nice guy, talented singer/songwriter. Sad to have lost him suddenly a couple years ago...
Hey John, yes, that was a fun hang. Hopefully there will be other opportunities like that in the future.
Best to all,
Jimmy J
Eiji-san,
Thanks to your deep knowledge I have discovered that my main fretless bass is actually 80 1497.

I wonder how many years I've had that wrong? I'll be calling my insurance company tomorrow!
Thanks!
Jimmy J
