Can't skip on quality when playing an alembic so I've narrowed it down to these two https://en-us.sennheiser.com/sennheiser-he-1 (https://en-us.sennheiser.com/sennheiser-he-1) the price may seem a lot, but on the plus side the marble plinth could double as a high-end cheeseboard to go with my coffee table basses. Or these https://audio46.com/shop/foacl-utopia-tournaire/ (https://audio46.com/shop/foacl-utopia-tournaire/) I think I will skip the stand at an extra: $12,000! ;D ;D :-X ;)
Love the Sennheiser amp and phones combination. Striking. Just as striking is the following warning included in the ad...
"WARNING (for California residents only): This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects and other reproductive harm."
I wonder why it only is dangerous in CA? Haha
Yeah Hammer that one looks superb, the other is a bit.... well way too bling bling for me. I wonder how many owners have either one and listen to MP3's on it. ??? :-X :o
Some people just have too much money.

I'm very happy with my Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro, which I thought was very reasonably priced.

Yep unfortunately I don't fall into that category.......yet. But if I do I won't be spending more on headphones than I would spend on a new alembic that's for sure.
Koss TD/80's work for me.
A couple years a go I picked up a $300 pair of Tascams on sale from MF for $25; no, they don't cover 5Hz-50KHz like the FUs - but then, neither do my ears. Their 15-25K works fine for me. But that amp/case/tombstone rig with the Sennheisers is pretty groovy. Heck, I might even have gone list on the Tascams if they had that.
Peter (who does think the FUs are appropriately named.........)
I like my Sennheiser HD600s pretty well, especially with Sonarworks correction. I've been using Audio Technica ATH M50s for location where I need a sealed can, but I got tired of the big bump on the low end, so I splurged for a pair of the ADAM SP-5s. They have amazing imaging and are intensely revealing, but I'm still getting used to mixing on them. They are like a sports car with insanely quick reflexes. Wait, that sounds like a bass we all know and love.....
I still love my old Sennheiser HD 430s , I believe that I have replaced the ear pads twice and the cord once .
JV, I ran across this Beyer Dynamic review from a favorite website:
https://kenrockwell.com/audio/beyer/aventho.htm
KR knows his stuff backwards and forwards, I'd trust this review. No idea about your budget, but he talks about them being solid down to 14hz (!) and thought I'd forward this to you.
Happy Boxing Day !
Why am I getting the feeling that you guys think I'm seriously looking at getting those headphones in my OP. I do need some new ones but not those. I currently use Sennheiser HD205's which I got mainly for using in the studio for my radio programme but they sound OK for bass too. The ear pads are nearing the end of their life and I don't know if they can be replaced.
Maybe my British humour is not translating well. :-)
:) remember that you're posting this on a board where members may have collections of guitars and basses worth over 100k, and single custom instruments may have cost 25/30k+ so sticker shock isn't as much of a shock here as it might be elsewhere.
I internalize my sticker shock. :o :D

Point taken i better not post that on talkbass then. 🤩🤫🤔🤓🕷
Phil Jones Bass Headphones designed for bass and by a bass player, best sounding headphones I've ever heard
I tried those when I got my big head headphone amplifier and didn't like them. Sent them back, got another pair and didn't like those either so got a refund and sennheisers instead.
