My guitar-playin' co-worker has been bouncing me a lot of Bill Frisell listening here lately. I'll clue him in. :)
I love Bill. I used to see him in the early 80s in a tiny club in Cambridge, MA on Saturday afternoons. 90% of the people ignored him, but he was always brilliant (and humble).

I am put in mind of the back cover of
Live As We Know It, by the wonderful bluegrass band Hotmud Family (of which, alas I can not find an image); it's a black & white cartoon of a bar, with thought balloons; bartender is thinking about the clock, one drunk about more drinks, one about breasts, etc - and none paying any attention whatsoever to the stage in the background, where Hotmud Family is playing. Their collective balloon is a full-color view of Appalachian beauty.
