I designed and inlayed the Dragon inlay on my headstock.  What do you all think?

Nice work!  Is this still your unknown bass?

navybass

Yep, it is.  From talking with Mica though, I think we seem to have it somewhat figured out.

David Houck

I agree, nice work.  What are the materials?
And what is it that you have somewhat figured out about the history of the bass, if you are at liberty to say?

The materials are Mother-of-Pearl and abalone.

When I talked to Mica, she was figuring that it was probaly made by Alembic, ,and could have been a second that somehow escaped, or it could have been an employee project.  Either way it was probaly made at the Alembic factory back in 74.

Underneath the deep engraved serial number on the headstock was another serial number that I told Mica about, it was 74-64, which scared the hell out of me cause I thought ie was the stolen one.  When I talked to Mica though, she told me that 74-64 had a maple top, which this one doesn't, and there were alot of other differences.  We also figured that this might have been a previous one with that number, and when they decided not to originally sell it, they reused the serial number on a different bass, then this one somehow escaped.

Mica started a file on my bass.  There is still speculation about alot of things with this bass, but like I said, she told me that it was most likely made by Alembic.

Thanks for the update.  I especially like the Alembic logo.

That's cool! Nice work. It must be interesting to have a bass with a mysterious past!

Anyone heard anything new on this one? Very intriguing to say the least.

lbanks

I now own it. An still a bit in the dark. But, I've been assured it is an Alembic... of sorts.

57basstra

Sounds like a very cool instrument to own...

hubwolf

I just bought it. I've been concerned about gigging out with my nicer Alembics so wanted this one strictly as a player for our Dead cover project.

A ratty '74 P-bass would cost just as much for nowhere near the quality.

sonicus

Congratulations ,    You are right about a ratty old P -Bass, it is ironic , isn't it?
