Here is my Series II. Previously owned by Kevin Thompson of the Sweet Comfort Band. Kahler tremelo was added by Valley Arts Guitar. Tuners have been replaced. Here's the build specs:
 
1980 4 string medium scale series II
Walnut top & back
mahogany body
maple/purpleheart neck
Ebony fretboard
MOP ovals
Schaller tuners
Completed 1-11-80

I picked it up through a guitar shop in San Jose, CA. Doc used to own this bass.

After scrolling through some old catalogs, I found this. Looks like this bass was the poster child for the Series II in 1983!

Looks like you are right there Neyman.  Also that one right in the photo is a rare example of a light wood neck. Probably maple.

That one on the right has been for sale at Gruhn's Guitars for quite some time. Price may be a little steep, but it's a beauty!

Checked out the list.  I can now see the reason why it's been for sale for some time. Given the company your new bass has kept, it appears you got a great deal on it. Congrats!

Is this the Doc Green you mentioned? I have done some gigs with him playing at nursing homes!
