Crazy chunk of Ebony. We've had this for over a decade, and just sliced the cap off to see what was inside. This will make a really nice top and back and matching peghead veneers. There should be enough for 3-4 sets here.

it reminds me of a picture of an embryo developing a womb.

That must be a heavy hunk of wood! Beautiful!

It is m-a-s-s-i-v-e! The top lines look like Helmholtz-Kelvin waves and of course now it can only look like an ultrasound image, Vince!

sonicus

Kool !  How would this top & back work with a Walnut core wood and  with a Maple in between accent wood perhaps ?

That's a great idea Wolf - but it's got better get a bigger/wider/padded strap written alllll over it...!

David ,Yes the weight ! Perhaps a scaled down  3/4 Size Standard Point with   rib/tummy contour  on the back . 32 Medium scale with ebony stringers !   Series II,  Nickel Hardware , Green LED's with RED LED's at the 12th ( I am dreaming out loud now)     OR a Series II Distillate with a point !   Old knobs and layout with pickup selector on the lower bout.    I like that . I like that alot .

OH! , Front loaded electronics on a Brass Plate !!! ( LOL )  Interesting colour contrast .

+1 buddy - I'm likin' that a lot, too. I'm a real sucker for that old school Alembic vibe.

Better git yer credit card ready 'cuz it sounds like yer gittin' dangerously close to pullin' th' trigger on one heckuva stunning hunk of instrumental awesomeness - !

But, you could look at this way:

What a great way to commemorate the start of your new project!

Wolf,
We are on the same wavelength. Seeing Chalie's Distillate Series has been resonating with me. I love the style and this piece of eboney is insane!
Dreaming is a good thing.

Hmmm - Was this chunk around when Monty was made?  Why wasn't it used to make Monty, if so?  Just curious.  Too pricy?  Also out of curiousity, what would it cost to put a back lame of this on and existing bass?  Pure curiousity . . .

jazzyvee

Interesting that you ask that poor_nigel. I have thought that question a number of times for a few of my basses but shut myself up due to the expectation that it would cost an arm and a leg.

No this will be less expensive than what we did on Monty on a new build. That was crazy. Cool, but crazy.

Adding a back laminate means refinishing plus the cost of the laminate and labor. Not cheap. Please don't do this to Monty.
