Skylark Come Home!
Thanks Mica, It is Wonderful!

Nice! I was just thinking the other day what the Skylark would look like with Walnut or Coco Bolo. Looks great.

Yes, I'm thinking a Skylark (with 23.5 scale!), built with Tribute woods (maybe with fewer layers to the sandwich to shave some cost, but definitely with maple core and coco bolo top and back), with standard Skylark electronics.  (After all, the Tribute is JERRY'S guitar, you know?)  Walnut's a cool choice, too--looks good!  Warmoth does a bolt-on (ack!) Jerry body with a walnut top.

Wow ...this guitar seems to sound already without strings. Can you imagine what it's going to give WITH strings and electronics

Paul the bad one

bishopqdog

it's amazing how long one can stare at a piece of wood!!

zappahead

Did you have to get a double thick piece of Walnut for the top Bishop for the carving to work?

bishopqdog

I'm not sure how they did it,but they did!  Maybe Mica could answer that question.

try this link, http://www.alembicguitars.net/prod/skylark.html.
doesn't give the actual thickness, just states double.

love the walnut choice

zappahead

Yea, Ive eyed up the Skylark for quite some time. I love the shape and the feel of it. I would probably have done Walnut too. I hope we get to see it when its done.

I know with the Tributes that if you want to keep the carved top you need a double thick top, hence its own thread in the wood section with double thick cocobolo bookmatches. I figured it was the same for the Skylark.

Mica is a better source, I just feel guilty addressing her since shes a one woman jack of all trades who is saintly in her patience with answering peoples questions.

mica

Our standard top laminate in 1/4 so the double thick ones on the Skylark (and Tribute) are 1/2. You need the double thickness so the roundover on the Skylark or the deep carving on the Tribute still shows some walnut at the edge of the guitar.

zappahead

The top looks great, figured it was double thick like the Tribute. Thats a nice piece of walnut too. You guys know how to pick em.

Here's the guitar with only 1-2 more coats of spray to go:

It's just gorgeous!

bishopqdog
