Well, theres the rub you see. It's supposed to be a swan having it's innerds ripped out by a magestic eagle that is looking at it menacingly. It's my family crest you see and it suits me down to the ground. It's translated from old Irish as war-like and fighter. So if it turns out like a duck, that would be inappropriate.

since you are removing the top part
have the eagle sitting in flight over the swan and the poor swan shittin a pickle- it might give you more room to make the swan more swan like,,,?
