So....
I've mentioned before, on this board that my ideal beater bass would be a Peavey T-40 w/ a fretless neck, BiSonics, active filters, & a buffer....  
 
Well, I've had the T-40 for about a year, and just last week I found a T-20 fretless on CL. I originally picked up a Foundation, which I was going to pop the frets off of, but I'm glad I didn't! Now, I've got to start ironing out the electronics.... A set of Hammons or Novacks are going to cost more than the bass, but I think this is a good platform for what I'm cooking up...  
 

 
What do you think? Mono or Stereo? Passive Vol/Tone w/buffers, or active pre(s)? 5-pin compatibility?!?.... Hammered brass pick guard? lol...

I owned a T-40 about 20 years ago. Lately, I've been missing that thing. I love my Alembic, but I loved that Peavey, too. It was just a bear to play standing up.

I bought a T-40 a couple years ago out of curiosity.  I was amazed at the weight, the tones, the weight, the mass of the bridge, and the weight.  Did I mention the weight???  Shortly after setting it up I realized that the truss rod was breaking through the fingerboard... DAMN!!!  I actually got in touch with Chip Todd (he designed the T line instruments) and he told me that any Fender neck should bolt right on, so I had a Jazz neck made with an Ebony FB.  Well, it didn't exactly bolt right on.  I had to do some minor surgery in order to get it to fit in the pocket.  I finally got it in there and realized that the dimentions of the neck heel were thinner than on the original.  So... I had a 1/4 metal plate made to fit between the heel and the pocket.  I bolted everything together and it sounds FANTASTIC!!!  It has the tightest and most focused tone of anything I've ever played.  I call it my J-40.
