I 'pimped' my SF-2 Superfilter!

I was already playing with the idea to make a custom wooden presentation casing for my Alembic SF-2 Superfilter, and last weekend I just started the work to see where it would take me. It now really looks like the high-end hifi piece of equipment it is. Without wanting to sound arrogant I think I did a pretty good job, and I'm always very critical about things I made myself. The wood is Pine, and the accents in the front corners are Oak, Purpleheart and Massaranduba. It stands on little chrome legs. Maybe I'll add another layer of paint later, but initially I wanted to keep it as natural as possible, allowing you to feel the grain of the wood(s). The pictures below take you through the building process. I hope you like it. Enjoy!  Wilfred

Nice ...but were is the fancy inlaywork of a ballet-dancing-hipopotamus (my favourite from Fantasia 1).

Or the maple veneers??

Or the ebony laminates??

Paul the bad one

PS: just kidding ...I wish I had those skills and nerves tot do something like that. Even when I make a simple housing for pipery under the sink it always comes out COMPLETELY different than I had in mind.
Mmmmm ...must be the credo of my life HA!!!!

I've often thought of how nice a natural wood rack would look.  Congrats on a really nice looking rack!

Hey not bad at all! what's in that little wooden box?

Ha die Paul, inlays? If only I could! But who knows, it might be an ever evolving process that'll never be finished completely. There'll certainly be another layer of transparant mahogany stain paint, most likely to be followed by a layer or two of clear high gloss yacht laquer. But before that happens, there is some serious sanding work to do. And I've run out of elbow grease for a while ;-)

I'll probably continue the work later this week. And like a private little 'Customer to Customer' thread, I'll keep y'all posted...

Thanks for the nice comments Dave and Keavin! The Alembic wooden box contains some 'Grolsch' rubber rings that can be used as strap locks, and a few picks...

Wilfred - that's a great little case. Very nice! If you have a mind to visit Las Vegas, there are a few carpentry tasks I could use some expert help with. A show and a dinner buffet are on me. =D

Thats a cool box Wilfred, nice change from a standard rack box. But..ahh..there's no LEDs ? Seriously, very nice.
And Dave mentioned wooden racks..check out Nice-Racks.com.

Looks too pretty to take out on the road....I'll have to settle for a simple rackmount config for my F1X.
