Hello,
I notice that in my '80 Series I the 5 pin connector is Neutrik ( no Switchcraft ). Why ? Can you give me some suggestion ? Is It originally installed by Alembic, or somebody replaced It ?

Thanks,

My guess is that it's a replacement.  And I would further guess that perhaps the pins on the original were somehow bent and that a replacment was thus required.

I had to check to see if it was possible...  According to their website, Neutrik was born in the 70's, so their connectors did exist back then.

Bob; I did the same thing!

Thanks for your replies.

My desire is to restore my Series I in original condition in all parts.
I know, It's very difficult to establish if this connector was originally installed by Alembic or not but, if somebody replaced It he made a good job ( see picture )

I hope that somebody will give me the certainty that this bass was made with this connector or not.

Probably a replacement, I think.  I can't get to my basses now, but are they all Switchcraft connectors. It looks like the slotted flathead screws you have are too big (the head is sticking up past the connector).  You should have smaller oval head machine screws with a Phillips head.  I believe that all the screws are stainless steel as well.

The substitution should be functionally just fine (many people like Neutriks better than Switchcraft) and is cheap to change if it really bothers you.

I agree on it being a replacement.  As far as original connectors go, I know of 2 types used.  They used Cannon XLR's in the begining and switched over to Switchcraft some time in the mid 70's.
