Grant me the serenity
to accept the strings I cannot change;
courage to change the strings I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Hi
My first post.
I am a hobbyist, played in bands over the years.  Had fender, Pedulla, Carvin Fretless. And bough an Alembic series 1 about 20 years ago for $800 in Atlanta.
Loved its sound, but, I wanted a 5 string, found it too heavy and couldn't figure out all the little knobs. Sold it on ebay years ago to buy my current car.
So, now I have no ax and am looking. I played a Modulus Q5 and loved the sound and A Warrior and loved the feel and sound - I live 20 miles south of Alembic HQ and will go over and see what they have.
Now my question. I've only played the series 1 and it is WAY out of my price range. For between 1000 and 1500 what would you suggest I look for. I want a nice sounding bass (Casady is my hero - love the sound of his bass on Hot Tuna) but, as  a hobbyist and soon to buy a house, I need some ting affordable that I will love
Suggestions?

Brother James,

you forgot to mention that you were the one who invented a feasible step-by-step program how to acquire expensive Alembics with the least financial pain and a minimum of senior management interference.
Something with Malthumb and acquisition and it became one of our funny letterwords again ...uhuh ....yep ...got it MAAM = Malthumbs Alembic Acquisition Method.
Can you imagine how many innocent souls you have seduced to jump into the deep of the Alembic crypt that way???
LOL

I can help!! I have developed a twelve step program for Alembaholics. The first step involves selling me your best Alembic for a song. Then on to thinning the rest of your herd. If you have more than 12 Alembics you are out of luck and are incurable.

Joe; welcome to the group!  In that price range there are a lot of nice Alembics available.  Check out the For Sale section of this board.

It is comforting to know that there are many others out there with the same affliction!

Fancy inlays, wood upgrades, and plated hardware...Alembling?

If so, at what point would it actually become Alembling-bling?
