I just won ebay item #220023376643   a flame maple 4 string epic for 950 shipped with case. I wasn't looking for another bass, but I couldn't pass it up.  I already own a 5 string wenge epic and love it.  I've seen epics go for 1500 lately on the 'bay and I think it did pretty good.  If all else fails, I'll install the filter and q in the bass and resell it, but I doubt that.  I have never regretted buying a bass.

congrat!
Epics are GREAT basses. this is one of the best sounding basses around, simple controls, elegant body, and punchy Alembic tone that'll cut through a mix like u won't believe.
the combination of mahogony and maple should be perfect.. the Les Paul's maple top is what gives it that signiture sustain and tone..
plus the Ebony?..
for-GET about it!....
You will love it.

Gary, congrats.  I have a maple Epic 4 and an Epic 5 and I love the combination of the two.  Yours is beautiful too.  Now you have more to long for while you're offshore.

that's called tiger stripe?  I can never tell my figured woods.

Usually, it's called 'flame' maple:  This is the stripey maple seen on primo Les Paul tops, where most people have seen it.  Violins (and their descencants, the f-hole jazz guitars) usually have back and sides made from it, as well as some acoustics, like Gibson Jumbos.  It's called 'fiddle-back' maple from this, or a name I must have picked up along the way, 'tiger stripe'.  It's a no cost ALEMBIC top wood, often overlooked after all the dark woods and quilt maple.
