Check out this bass solo by Dr.Z  I performed it with my lefty Epic 6 (Birdseye Maple)
Go to www.broadjam.com then got to the upper right corner of the page to SEARCH.  Hit on that and type in Bass Face in the Song Name box.  Hit on the artist named Marsha Gerontis.  Song name is: Bass Face (6 String Bass Solo By Ron Zemanek)
Check it out and let me know what you all think.  Just want to share the music.  Take care all.

wow - fast! bit of a Billy Sheehan vibe, no? I could only play the lofi mp3 but I liked it.

mgirouard3

That is some cool stuff!  What types of effects are you using?

drz

Only using a bit of chorus and recorded direct.

mgirouard3

Sounds great!  At times, it almost sounds like you have a bit of overdrive but it could be due to the lousy speakers on my laptop.  They seem to distort easily.  Who would you say are your influences?

drz

Yea, I didn't use any overdirve.  I have never really limited myself as far as influential players.  I have tried to get someting from all the greats.  I can say I was infulenced heavily in my early years by Rush, Iron Maiden, etc...then moved into Dream Theater, etc.... but I have also taken alot from countless others in every genre.  I dont like to limit myself stylistically so I have studied all styles.  I have quite the video instruction library, probably all of them, so I got a something from everyone.  I just play form the heart and have fun.

DR Z, how many fingers do you got? good chops dude!

drz

I only have 8 fingers.  2 thumbs too but I have 6 strings on the bass, it helps.  I do take a three finger approach, actually alternating between two and three.  Funny though, I cant play with a pick to save my life.

hb3

would you care to be more specific about what you're doing? I've always been curious about stuff like this. hammering-on using open strings?

drz

The beginning and end are a combination of hammer on tecniques using open and closed note progressions, part two and three are all closed position, the chord movements all occur while working around an open A string

hb3

right...when doing the hammer ons, are you keeping to one string or more than one? it does sound like sheehan....

drz

Both, some one string and some using two but moving up and down different strings.  Bassically working around the A&D, D&G, G&C, in open/closed position and then the open G&C periodically with some crossover movement integrated with it too.

hb3

thanks, that helps me picture it a little...I never know what's going on with stuff, just that it sounds impressive....
