It is December 2002 and this month's featured custom bass is equipped with super bright GREEN laser LEDs! I didn't even know they were available on Alembics. Until now all I knew was possible on an Alembic was RED for super bright laser LEDs.
 
So Mica, what other colors can we now choose from for laser LEDs and are they priced any differently than RED?
 
How much is the upgrade from already installed green standard LEDs to super bright green Laser LEDs ;-)

There isn't a price difference between the red and green Laser LEDs (but the green ones are slightly brighter).
 
When your bass was made, only the red ones were available.
 
On your bass, changing the front LEDs would also mean redoing the inlays or refinising the bass to save them, either way, a costly proposition.  
 
We can add side LEDs without refinishing or even refretting, but you'd never want laser LEDs on the side.
 
Maybe we could add a superbright green LED somewhere else - maybe on the body or possibly at the very end of the fingerboard, below the 24ths fret.

Thanks Mica! No sweat, I didn't really plan to have my fretboard torn apart for an LED upgrade :-) and of course I know there were only red lasers when my bass was built.  
 
So red and green are the only laser LED colors available? What about other colors?

There were some technical breakthroughs in the past 5 years that made blue LEDs affordable (I have Krell amps in my stereo that date back to the days when blue LEDs were rare and expensive).  Another more recent innovation allows for white LEDs which are actually blue LEDs with a filter.  The white LEDs with another filter give a wide range of color, although the addition of the color filter reduces the light.
 
OK, Mica...  If I order a new Alembic with the MOP background for the logo and a white laser LED behind that to make it glow in the dark, will I be the first one to get that?  8-O

Yes you would be the first. We've never backlit the cloud in an inlay.

It will look really cool! We've done backed ovals, and they look awesome, but the cloud.... THAT is a great idea!  
 
Of course we'll have to think of some really stunning design to go with the original Stinger bass you already have.
