I?ve seen some Alembic copies that people try to sell as the real thing - they all seem to have a single truss rod. Now, do Alembic series basses always have the double rod or has this been changed sometime? Reason I?m asking is that I?ve come across a bass that?s supposed to be an Alembic and does look and feel different from the copies, but has only one truss rod... Anyone got info on that?

early Alembics had just one truss rod, later on 2 rods became the standard, I think sometime in the mid to late seventies, but I couldn't tell you exactly when; I am sure Mica can tell you, or one of our afcionados ( and there's quite a few) of Alembics early basses.  
However , to find out if you have the real McCoy there or not, find the serial number and post it here on the site for Mica to look up; she'll be able to tell you if it's the real thing plus all the info on its construction specs.

I believe dual truss-rods were introduced in 78-79 models. Guitars and basses prior to this also had no truss-rod cover.

I was told recently by a member of the group here that Alembic started using two truss rods in mid 1977.  To further what Val suggested, general info about serial numbers can be found here:

jogi - coudl you find a serial number on the bass? If it's an old one, you'll find it stamped on the very tippy-top of the peghead or if it's only middle aged stamped in the ebony fingerboard just below the 24th fret.  
 
All Alembics have a metal Alembic logo and a serial number. I also have some information about fakes you might want to read.
