I wonder if there are any changes to Crest from the prototype to the production models currently for sale? I see a short-scale and medium-scale each made it to retail.

Yeah - it's standardizing as a medium scale, though short scales peek out from time to time. The biggest change is the heel - production models have a VERY deep carved heel.
