I was looking at that one over the weekend. Really cool looking bass. I don't even mind the finish checking.

Checkered past is right... 76-412 has been around here a few times. She's purpleheart. And craz-y. 🤪

Edward, is it me or are those links 2 different basses?

edwardofhuncote

No, same one Kenn. It's just unusual enough that it stuck in my head. There's actually another more recent Showcase Thread on 76-412 https://club.alembicguitars.net/index.php?topic=27087.0 and I've commented every one of them. I can't figure why it doesn't stay put... that purpleheart makes it heavy maybe? Anyway, the weird-with-numbers thing is just part of what makes me tick. And it's very close to Jimmy's number 418... keep thinkin' one of these old days I'll spot that one.  :)

*For some reason, the first link opens (for me at least) to a post with a picture of a similar one that was refinished. That was right after another Club Member [welovecats] got it and was pondering a refinish. Maybe that's what got your attention?  ???

Edward,  maybe I'm being confused by Rob's pic.  Is that pic of 76-412?

Correct Kenn, that's a picture of a refinished Series bass that was also for sale about that same time. (I don't remember its number, oddly) Rob posted it to show what a purpleheart top could look like without a crazed finish. The rest of the thread is all about 412 here.  ;)

Roger that,  thanks for sorting my confusion.
