We have lost many greats recently 

Thompson Terry eulogies Jon in the following-

(I just learned Jon Camp passed away on the 13th. I first heard him with his Rickenbacker playing in Renaissance (1972) and I followed his career since. Massive talent and all-around great guy, Jon was remarkably open with his fans and generous with his time. Some of the last music he'd recorded was with Band of Rain, and he was talking with Chris Gill about the band's next album. Jon will be greatly missed).

Jons fiery lead style is captured exquisitely on the album "Renaissance live at Carnegie Hall", 1976 !

Aw, that's a loss. He inspired many. Great playing and great tone. RIP

I believe I saw his last performance with Renaissance.  They played a couple nights at the Tower Theater in Philly in 1985.  He was there the first night but not the second night.  The band morphed in to an acoustic outfit and were a bit wobbly without him there.

What a show!  Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span & Renaissance.  I believe it was the only time I saw Dave Swarbrick perform.

Anyway, while many believe Renaissance was Anne Haslem, I kept tuning in because of Jon Camp's bass lines.

I only just started listening to Renaissance a few months ago. I've heard of them for a long time but never listened for some reason. I found this video and even though it's "lip synching" with the original recording, there are a couple of views of Jon Camp on a doubleneck! The part starting at 2:52 is cool - it looks like they are really playing and it looks like he's attacking the bass! I think that might be part of the sound. He would've been great on an Alembic!

Quasar1 - thank you for all of that! I've been continuing listening to Renaissance fairly regularly - in addition to Alembics I am a fan of Rickenbackers and also doublenecks so the late Jon Camp ticks a lot of boxes! Part of me can't believe I didn't pick up on them sooner, but another part of me is glad because it is a field of wonderful sound and music to explore!
