Someone snatch this up if it's legit.

" bought this new in 1983 and have had many basses over the years, but this has always been my best and favorite axe. It's in good shape and plays great. It is a bubbly maple body. I am asking $1000 but will consider a slightly lower offer."

Either doesn't know what he has or a scam. If I lived in that neck of the woods, however, it would certainly be worth checking out.

Yow, I would snatch that up in a heartbeat if I was down that way. (Who wouldn't?  ;D )

I texted him to see if I could take a look.

dela217

Well, I looked at it.

It is a good thing I recently had a tetanus shot.

It was rough in my opinion.    I offered him $800, but he said he wanted $1000.   He also said he was offered $2000.00 from someone in Colorado, but does not want to ship it.    Let me re-size these photos and you will see what I mean.

Here it is.   Rusty strings and all.    Check out the corrosion on the bridge and tailpiece.   There was cracking around the jack, but the headstock was intact.    The logo on the headstock was bent.

Definitely looks like it needs new strings!

hehehehe

The pictures do not capture the level of nastiness that I got firsthand.   Ew.  The fingerboard was disgusting.

jazzyvee

Looks like it has been in a damp environment for a good while.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Wow.  That may a hurricane survivor.  It could probably be resuscitated but it would take some doin'.  How's the battery?  :o  And the pickup mounting screws are all on top ... that system seems so difficult for people to understand.

Needs a home.  With a workshop.

Looks like it would take approximately Eddie Jefferson hours in the workshop.

Pretty rough, but for someone with workshop and time, it's a nice project bass :)

edwardofhuncote

Hmmm. I have the time, the shop and the gumption. [sigh] I just don't need another bass... or another project... somewhere at the Mothership I have another Series bass in the works.

This is exactly what I like to find though... the sadder, the better. I'd have that poor thing lookin' sharp in a month or two.

tkotmk42

Speaking of rough bass, I saw one in Japan last week, for mere 220k JPY (less than 1500 bucks!!!!)!!!

Series 1 LSB, 4 strings, Cocobolo top, fingerboard de-laminated, series electronics not working (all connection was solid, so something internal, they checked using several different DS-5 to confirm), original case and paper works included.   Otherwise, it was all intact, no neck break or nothing......   I was going to jump on it, but it was already gone.........   Orz

oh well,  things you find out there sometimes makes you wonder what the heck is still out there....

Looks like it sat in some water for sure.  If anyone here buys it, feel free to contact me about restoring it for you gratis.  I hate to see an Alembic in this kind of condition.  My biggest concern would be if the neck is straight.
