I'm off to one of George Price's gigs tonight. He is on the bass with a singer called Hayley Griffiths at a place called The Stables in Milton Keynes.
I think the music is one set of folky stuff and the other more fusion. Perfect as my other half loves folky stuff, (i do too), and fusion is my poison.

It was a superb gig and indeed George is an excellent bass player. He had two alembics with him the Spyder and Dragon's wing and just before the second half he put that 8 String Spyder bass in my hands. It sure is a beauty.

The bass player's function, along with the drums, is to be the engine that drives the car... everything else is merely colours.

I was hoping for a big but not overpowering sound from the bass on that gig but it was really low in the FOH  so really hard to hear it's contribution which was a shame. The first half was celtic folk music and he used a fretted NS upright played on a strap with a bow for some songs and that sat nicely in the mix. The alembics were used in the second half.  That aside it was a really impressive gig and all the members were great players and the singer has an impressive voice.
I'm looking forward to catching more of George's gigs in the future. I can see a great future for his talent.
