Bananas at Large seems to come across the a-typical Alembics.

And the grain on the primary neck wood almost looks like oak, which they were using for bodies at that time.  Would that be possible?

I like the tailpiece, bet the screws look kinda odd.

The veneer on the back of the peghead looks like oak too.

I think the veneer on the back of the headstock might be lacewood

The cool factor on these old guitars is just off the charts.

Might be. I've also seen some sycamore with speckled figure like that. Whatever it is, both of the faces of the headstock on #73-43 has it too. Must have been popular about then.

Both guitars ARE beautiful and I am intrigued to hear their tone(s).

I had been helping the family to identify the guitar and offer it for sale for them since 2015.  I was sad to see it listed by someone else this morning after staying in touch with the family for all these years.  Just goes to show that no good deed goes unpunished.  I have the original photos, and it looks like someone took all the original tailpiece screws out, and replaced them with drywall screws.  Horrible!

I am a little bit confused about how, or maybe why, the strings are pulled under the moustache tailpiece. (with the aforementioned drywall screws...) Whassat about?

Did they just remove the wooden base of the tailpiece, so the brass top is actually holding down the strings, like in mid-air?
