It's now 10yrs since Mica handed this bass over to me at the Santa Rosa workshop and i'm still in awe of it.

A rare view of an alembic.
The gig today everything goes through the airport style scanner so i asked if they could take a photo for me.

VERY cool pic!   I especially dig the trust rods, wiring, and the strap button in the upper horn.

what surprised me is that i expected the truss rods to be in the centre of the neck but they look to be under the E and A strings.

Recognized the same thing.  Given the thicker mass/higher tension (?) of the low strings it makes sense.... Those Alembic Technicians got everything figured out!

Wonder if the truss rod placement is consistent regardless of the amount of strings? Weird that when you adjust the 'treble" side if the G and D strings need tweaking the rod is actually under the A string. Doesn't seem like that would work yet we know it does.

I did wonder if it's some kind of illusion and appearing that way due to the way the scanner works and the images are built up.  But what do I know about these things.

It doesn't look exactly square to the viewer. I mean the B string is way in and the G string is off the neck. Also, remember that the A string isn't in the center of the fingerboard. The truss rods are in the center of the neck.
