I should have a new SC "Brown Bass" tomorrow!

I currently own a long scale Scorpion and love it. Many have said the short scale is "easier" to play. I played a short scale Alembic years ago and had a lot of fun with it. I love the control layout of the Brown bass,  so I pulled the trigger on one. Any thoughts on the short scale vs. long scale models?

Hey, there's Mike B. in Tennessee...  :)

I played a Brown Bass belonging to a fellow Club Member a couple years ago, and was fascinated with the mellow, woody tone it produced, played alongside his Series I, which was a maple/purpleheart neck layup. They were radically different. I rather preferred the Brown Bass for that warmth.

Personally, I've come to favor the medium-scale (32"), but it really is less to do with reach and more to do with feel and ergonomics of the instrument. I can't imagine a BB or a SC bass being much fun to play as a long-scale. (with all deference due to Dela217) I can play any bass, of any scale length, and switch between them, up to a 42" upright without too much trouble. Some folks might have a hard time being comfortable with that, but I'm not a technically disciplined player enough for it to matter.

At this stage, I can't really see me with another Alembic bass, but iffn' I did, it'd be a Brown Bass. There are some recurring dreams of a Custom Guitar built based on Brown Bass specs right now... but that's just a derail for your thread.

So, Congratulations & Compliments [premature] on your new BB. Give my regards to Broadway and Printer's Alley next time you're over thataway.

Thanks, David and Edward! It should arrive within the next few hours at most. If I figure out how to do so, I'll post pics (of both Alembics)!

PS Will tell Nashville you said hello, Edward!

Congratulations. I own a BB. It was my second Alembic and my main bass for years. Even with now having a Series I it gets a lot of playing time.

Superb bass! Fit, finish, feel, and of course sound! I have not yet played it through my big rigs, but it sounds superb through my 1967 Ampeg B-18-N. Will report after I put it through my Hiwatt, Ashdown, Hi-Tone, and vintage Sunn rigs.

I have a Demeter 800 Combo coming in about two months and can't wait to hear it through that amp!

Love the short scale. In fact, I like it a bit better than my long scale Scorpion.

More to come....

Indeed, Edward. With all the amps I have, too bad it does not have a "quad" output!
