Gentlemen: A local seller in my area (Asia) is offering a 1987 Alembic Stanley Clarke signature 30 3/4" Short Scale Bass with original hard case, certificate, and papers. I have not yet seen the bass. He describes it as well worn with paint cracks. He's asking $US4500. Is this a reasonable price? Thanks!

Do you have a pic, that would be great.
The bass player's function, along with the drums, is to be the engine that drives the car... everything else is merely colours.

Trying..

If the bass is as described I think it might be high for the US but probably within reason outside of it. Others follow prices closer than I do though and I'm sure they will post their thoughts.

Are my eyes deceiving me or are the string wrappings going past the nut and over the finger board?

pieanoman

Yup, it looks that way... Thanks for the info!

I'd agree with Keith on pricing. However, you always make a reasonable offer. Can't tell much from this photo...do you have others that would provide a better idea about the condition of the bass. A lot would depend on that. At the advertised price, you would want a bass you can just play and not have to send in for refinishing or repair. If it's local, go ahead and find a way to play it, that will give you critical information about its real condition, sound, and feel.
