Just saw this.    His contribution to rock 'n roll cannot be over-stated.   Part of the Stones incredible rhythm section.  'Nuff said.

The Lovely & Charming Mrs. Cowboy just walked in & told me.  Crap.

For my money, the most talented Stone; that boy could play!

Fare thee well, Charlie; you take a big chunk of our youth with you.

Huge, sad loss! Charlie and Keith's rhythmic symbiosis created the magic in the Stones music. End of an era or beginning of another depending on your point of view but there is no denying Peter's comment about another chunk of our youth vaporizing. "When the lord gets ready... you got to move"...

Live each day like your hair is on fire.

For me, the ultimate tribute to this man's skills: I, like most of you, can think of a pile of Stones tunes, and I distinctly remember the overall groove or feel of each one, without remembering any particular drum part highlight or something fancy going on behind the kit. And in a quantized and often squared-off rhythm world, he could swing, these days a lost art, something no preset or patch can do.

To me that's the ultimate measure of his contribution. He lived a long and remarkable life as a very elegant man often surrounded by the tawdriest of circumstances. A class act, a Gentleman in the best sense of the word, and I hope he eased away easily with no struggle.

God Rest Charlie Watts

A gentleman who despite his fame as a rock n roller never lost sight of Jazz being his true muse.

Truth.  His stoic demeanor was often comical juxtaposed against his band mates (save for Mr. Wyman).

I'm watching a BBC2 now "The Rolling Stones at the BBC".
Sad news.

Once someone pointed out Charlie's style to me.  Once heard, I craved it!  Truly one of the greats, and with jazz chops only greater!  Rest easy, you earned it!
The only thing that stays the same is change.
