The bass is on TalkBass too.

Agreed, very gorgeous.

The asking price seems to be higher now  then last time from what I remember  .

jwright9

It's actually a little less. I was asking $8995 or best offer.
Heck of a deal though considering it's a ~$20k bass that is essentially brand new.
August 2018.
This is one incredible bass! The next owner will be happy.

sonicus

Yes , it does seem highly desirable ! How many time has this instrument already been sold by different parties , Do I recollect correctly that there were various asking prices in the process ? :)

Thanks for the honesty and clarification.. Much appreciated!

I had the pleasure of noodling around a bit on this one when I visited the Mothership last summer. Quite the stunner. It's a 6er with wider string spacing than I'm used to, it may take some getting used to.

Mik , it there is an error in my commentary , observations or inquiries I intend on harm . Peace all around :) !

I am still  just curious as to how many times this instrument has been sold with all the respective asking prices and negotiable variables .

MIK  , I have to admit that I feel drawn and summoned by  this bass !  An Alembic six is my future , however I am cautious as the " Birds " fly in to tease me.  :) As well I am pleased to see this instrument as a contender  . It  most certainly is lovely . As per Adriaan's observations I like such a string spacing as well .  Fair game ; whom ever will make this acquisition hopefully will be pleased and she will have a loving home.  .

To the best of my knowledge I am the third owner and I have put very little time on the instrument. Looks that way for my predecessors too. Not a mark on this bass. As for asking prices I only saw it listed once and that was for more than I am asking. my price is also negotiable....

For sure it is thing of alluring beauty. Spacing is around 18mm. Funnily enough I have found the Alembic spacing a little tight. I had the most gorgeous Jimmy Johnson Signature 5 some years ago and let it go in part because the spacing was too tight for me. While I am digging shorter scale lengths as I get older I still like the 19mm standard spacing even on my sixers...

The early Alembic five-strings had really tight string spacing, seem to remember a post from Jimmy where he said he still prefers that spacing since he is used to it. My 1978 Series five string has a very narrow neck and string spacing, too. It isn't indicative of later builds unless someone makes a custom request.

FWIW... Alembic does not measure string spacing the way other manufacturers do, somewhere here there is a post from Mica about this.

They measure the same way as anyone would do ;D - the difference is in that the setup at the bridge is with the same distance edge-to-edge between strings, rather than center-to-center. At the nut, it's center-to-center. Unless of course you custom order with conventional string spacing.
IIRC, Jimmy mentioned one of his fretted basses has conventional spacing, which he hadn't even been aware of.

Thanks Stephen and Adriaan,
Yes, the string edge to edge is how I understand it to be and how I measured for the Wave 6 listing.
Going to try and attach a pic of my old JJ Sig here....
