Ibanez Artist?

I don't know the name, but it's not an'Alembic, maybe Ibanez, but certainly custom guitar synthe like this one:

I believe this is an early attempt by Roland to make a synthesiser from a guitar.  Think back to the early 80's.  He gave a fascinating interview with Guitar Player, describing that his picking was ahead of the foward part of the beat to take into account the inherent delay from analog to digital due to the pickups.

Steve is right. I've seen him play that guitar quite a few times. It's probably made in the same factory that made Ibanez guitars. I don't think it was a custom guitar, just not one that gained all that much popularity due to the tracking issues that Pat mentions.

I've read in the past that this is a Roland G 303 synth controller modified with a Synclavier control pad.See following page about halfway down under the heading 'Roland G-303 Guitar and the NED Synclavier'.

Looking in to it a little more, I see that it's one of Pat's tunes; so I guess he knew the progression pretty well.

Pat plays Roland guitar synth from 80's GR 300.
GR 300 and G 303 guitar controller was born as second generation of Roland guitar synth.
He own 2 or 3 modified G 303, one has Synclavier controller on lower horn, another has straight pull headstock (modified by luthier Linda Manzer) with warmy bridge.
The guitar on YouTube is no modification that I think.

Listen to 'Are You Going With Me' on the live album 'Travels' this is Pat's swansong and features the Synclavier in the chord change to Dbm.
This is a much better version than the Offramp studio take.
The song is really simple in structure but the solo playing is outstanding.

I'm listening to the Offramp version now (I can't find the Travels version on Grooveshark); very nice tune.

Dave, I am sure the 'Travels' version is on YouTube.
There is a midi file which has a very accurate bass line if you want to follow it along.

Yes, as near to the orginal 'Travels' version, an outstanding composition, if you want to get in to Pat Methemy, then listen to this.
This tune is the most sensuous, emotional number I have ever heard..it really is so simple, three chords Cm7, Dbm7 and Dm7 using all the modes in the chords but the solo is superb.

I believe that it is an 80's roland synyh guitar.It looks almost identical to the late 70,s/early 80's Ibanez musician model guitar.I saw quite a few of them back then.I wouldn't be surprised if Ibanez built them for Roland.take care;Glenn.
