I purchased this bass last year and would like the history. I understand that it was sent back to the mothership in 2003 for a wine burst refinish and additional upgrades.

Thanks!

Japhy, congrats on your purchase, nice looking bass!  History requests typically take a little while, but here's some reading to start with....

Thanks, I'm familiar with this post. It's really cool seeing what the bass looked like prior to the wineburst refinish. That post combined with Reid's TB for sale post from last year provides most of what I will probably learn about the bass. I just wanted to get the low down from the mother ship. No rush, really. :)

Here's that I found out about your bass:

top: Quilted Maple
accent: Purpleheart pinstripe
body: Maple
neck: 5-piece Maple with 4 Walnut pinstripes
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: Alembic AXY56
controls: Volume, pan, filter, Q switch, mono output
originally made for: Guitar Center, TX
birthday: March 10, 1995

The only other note in the file is the refinish. Great bass!

That bass looks superb and when it came up for sale I took a lot of willpower to look away.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Thanks, Mica! Interesting that Guitar Center ordered this bass. Were they an Alembic dealer?

Thanks. I'm quite please with it. I've considered selling it but only because it's a lot of bass for someone who just plays for his own amusement. Ah, what the heck - you only live once!

Yes, many years ago. We were selling to them back when they only had 2 stores. But they are not a dealer any longer.

Very interesting! Thanks for the background.
