A really pretty non-Alembic Bass

This is one of my Lado Basses.      It is the actual Bass photographed and featured in their catalogue.        The top is Zebrawood, the back is Afromosia (I'm not exactly sure what type of wood that is...).    The headstock is Flame Maple.  And get this, the neck is a combination of Flame Maple and Zebrawood laminates!  Ebony fingerboard with Mother of Pearl dots.    The bodycore is Flame Maple as well.        The controls are Master Volume, Pan, Bass, Midrange, and Treble.  The Pickups are Bartolinis.        It has a really cool inscription signed by Joe Lado (Kovacic) - the founder and president of the company.

Plays and sounds amazing.           (Message edited by Rami on November 19, 2004)

Here's what I managed to find on Afromosia:

This is a West African wood that darkens upon exposure to a deep orange-brown without the ?teak? oiliness.  It is a heavy, dense wood averaging 43lb/ft3.  Suited to interior marine applications where there is no moisture contact.  Unfortunately, it is difficult to obtain.

It's quite striking Rami. Thanks for letting us in on some of your incredible collection.

Here's the Lado catalogue picture.  As you can tell, my Bass is the one at the far right (although personally, I'm a little left of center!).

Cheers!

Great bass. I have had three Lado basses, two of them had a bit of an Alembic look. Pretty advanced electronics but very noisy, all three are late 70's basses. On one of them I replaced the electronic with Alembic elec. and p.u.'s. Here's a picture, not the best, of a Lado bass I still have but hardly use. It has EMG electronics and shaller hardware. The color is red, a sunburst red like on the second picture, not the purple look from picture one. Nice bass, my first real serious bass. I need some time to put better electronics and new hardware on it. I still like this bass a lot.
