Got home from the grocery and checked out the tv listings.  The local PBS station is doing it's annual pledge drive, and the current special is something called The British Beat; a number of British acts reprising their hits.  The name that caught my eye was Rod Argent.  I decided to turn it on while working at the computer.  Nothing much to get excited about until the Zombies came up.  The band did Time Of The Season and She's Not There.  This a good band, especially with Argent, and the tunes were great.  Nice unexpected treat for a Sunday evening.

Looks like I'm  a day late and a dollar short since I don't watch much TV. But thanks for the heads up. :-)

Yep, this one finally made me bite and call 'em with a pledge.  Even the Grateful Dead pledge drive broadcasts didn't make me do THAT!  :>O

Their lyrics, melodies, jazzy rhythms are timeless. A very underrated group.

She's not There has got to be one of my all time favorite songs.

I love the Zombies. I like them more than the Beatles. Oracle and Oddesey is my all time fave album.
 
Followed them around the midlands and saw a few shows. Jim Rodford was playing a Status bass through an Ashdown rig (ex Argent) and his son was on drums with a young session guitarist who is fantastic.
 
Last I heard they are going to do a reunion with Chris White on bass.
 
finally they are getting recognised for the great band and great songs... and of course Blunstone's voice is great as ever, even if he looks deathly pale on stage.

I guess the American Idol folks must be reading this thread.  Last night the contestants picked songs from the 60's.  One of them sang Time of the Season while another picked She's Not There.  American Idol .....Zombies ....... seems appropriate in some way!  LOL

Wow, anyone who would be foolish enough to cover Time of the Season has an artistic death wish.  You can't improve on one of the most perfect singles ever.

I also saw that PBS broadcast. The Zombies were far and above the other acts. Peter and Gordon were decent but Eric Burton was awful IMHO. Michael

Yo bassdr so is your spelling  - his name is Eric Burdon.  The Zombies were excellent, and can almost see my way through the haze.  How ironic that American Idol featured the British Invasion of the 60's this past week with at least two Zombie songs performed by the Howard Stern Sunjaya targets.

I always have my Dave Clark moment . . . when suddenly I hear the chorus of 'Glad All Over' start playing in my head.  Strange.  I always thought 'Ferry 'Cross the Mersey' was a great record.  I always thought 'For Your Love' should have been adapted for a Toyota commercial: Toy-o-ta sung like the intro.  I know if I EVER have to play 'House of the Rising Sun' again, I will demonstrate Spontaneous Human Combustion.  Is Peter from Peter and Gordon THE Peter Asher, the producer?  Paul thought Yoko's last name was exactly right:  Oh-No ! !

For Your Love is a great pop song, but the best version of it is Fleetwood Mac's cover thereof on the 'Mystery to Me' album. The overdubbed backing vocals of Bob Welch and Christine McVie give me the chills.
