Dan Meyr, previously working at Rodgers Organs in Portland, Ore. stole my 77 Hyak. Any info on this bass or Dan Meyr would be greatly appreciated. I got this bass thinking it was an Alembic, in my youth. I was not unhappy to find out what it was and decided to have it refinished, as the finish was all cracked out. Dan Meyr posted on Craigslist as a refinisher of instruments. I sent it along after meeting him. He jerked me around for quite a while. And then dissapeared. Last possible region of residence was Chicago. Thank you for looking. I will post a photo soon, as I have to take a digital pic of an older photo. Nick

I am not an Attorney ,but it seems to me that there may be some criminal implication regarding the actions of the person who unlawfully kept possession of your item and moved it over  state lines .I hope you get your Guitar back and get some kind of monetary restitution as well for yourTime  and Suffering may be a 'Civil Lawsuit as well as Criminal Prosecution . if some one did this do me  I would seek assistance to the full extent of the law with the legal system.Ok _____I know there are some legal folks in here as well as Attorneys  ;  do my  statements  and feelings  regarding this  sort of event make any sense to you ?   What are the opinions ? I dont like a thief either !

First of all, one shouldn't jump to conclusions.  At this point we don't know all of the relevant facts.  Should the bass be returned in original condition, there is probably little if any a lawyer could do, especially when one factors in the economic realities.  The cost of having an attorney try and sue, in relation to the relatively small amount of the damages that might conceivably be recovered, make this a losing proposition no matter how you look at it.  Should the bass not be retuirned, or returned in a damaged condition, it might be a different story.

Thank you Bill and Wolf. I will take your comments seriously. The fact I got a reply via e-mail from Mr. Meyr gives me added leverage in a lawsuit as well as conformation he has not returned it in any condition. It took years to find any posting of his. I am feeling upbeat that I may see this really cool bass back in my hands where it belongs. I found it in New Orleans in the early 90's and got a huge sense of deja'vu when I first held it. My best early recordings were with it. It had the original Brown Hyak box too. May the music Gods shine favorably on me.

A Hyak in New Orleans.  Imagine that!  There was a bunch of them down here for some reason.  There were 3 music stores in a 5 block radius that used to sell them.  They would often just have them in stock.
 
Chances are that I played that very bass at some point.  I used to check them all out as they came in.  Post them pictures!

I am trying mike. I am finding it's rather difficult to get a good pic of an old pic. Too much glare! My girlfriend is trying to scan it. I think I talked to you a few yrs ago about this very bass Michael.
