George passed on yesterday,
His contribution to the world of electric instruments will continue to bring smiles to musicians and music lovers for a long, long time.

Very sad news... George's contributions to Fender, Music Man & G&L instruments are many. This is a great book detailing George & Leo Fender's many decades together.

Leo felt that George deserved more reconition in their later years which is why he named the company G&L (George & Leo), he thought it would be nice to have George's initial first since Leo's name was already world famous by then. (so goes the story...)

Elwood, where did hear of George's passing?  I cannot find anything  about it on the internet.
Thanks

There has been the same discussion at the G&L discussion board...sadly it has been confirmed by some close to him.
here is my source.

I appreciate your double checking, communication is essential to making life better.

Was very sad to read this.

Yes, Elwood, the sad news is true... I was hoping it wasn't true but you obviously heard correctly long before most people.  I have been a big fan of G&L bassses for several years, I own 2 of them. There was a great old L1000 at the Chicago gathering recently... Thanks to George & Leo for the great instruments & innovations over the years. No disrespect to Alembic, apples & oranges... The best of both worlds.

I use my L1000 for my all purpose ax when going out,
classic tones and comfy neck.
G&L's may appear to be run of the mill , but every aspect of them has been well thought out, a large part due to George's genius.
G&L's website has put a nice pic up on their main page to honor George.

a link to photo's of Georges memorial service...it seems it reflected the love and liveliness that defined Georges life.

Sad to hear but at least he left a huge positive mark on the land...may we all achieve this in our lives...Tony.
