Actually I'm pretty positive that USA will make the group stages. Tim Howard did a great job.

Been watching some very good football. They've been talking about the ball, but most of the odd bounces I've seen can be related to wet weather and altitude.
 
Germany definitely played well, but the red card to Cahill was questionable and, I believe, factored into the final score.

While I was watching the game my wife ran upstairs thinking
we were being attacked by a swarm of bees!
 
The send off was dubious and a couple of offside
non calls but that is the nature of the game.
Missing the hand ball is inexcusable though.

It's soccer.  Let me sum it up ..
 
he's got he ball .... he's kicked it to someone else .... and he's kicked it to someone else ... and ... he takes a shot at the goal .. and.... no score .. the other team gets the ball ... they kick it around ... take a shot at the goal ... and no score....
 
Repeat for about 90 minutes and you have a soccer game.
 
Oh, BTW, they call a 4-0 game a rout.
 
Sorry, folks, but when the U.S. and Britain end a game tied, I don't call that exciting.  I call it average.  I know that it is a taxing game to play having played it myself, but it's just ... boring.  But that's just me.  To each his/her own, as they say.

Great outcome for NZ earlier today!!!

I'm really surprised of our German team. Especially because some good players are not with the team because of injury. But we have to wait until strong teams are coming. Australia was not that good at this day.

I'm with Alan on this one. Football has never sparked my interest and unfortunately we're now being bombarded with it from all directions. This is also one of the few times that being an Englishman living in Scotland has it's downside. Here in the central region, a minority of Scots will support everyone that plays against England and will go out of their way to propagate their 400 year old grudges. On saturday I passed at least 5 houses in my estate flying the stars and stripes.

It just never caught on in the states in all these years. Many young girls and boys play it, schools have teams and new immigrants and their descendants love the game. Not sure what it is but the paying public havent gone for it. But the rest of the world seems very interested. Hooters opens for the 7:30 am games. Breakfast of champions!

Myself, I'm waiting on an different sport that's huge in the rest of the world to 'catch on' here:  F1 (along with WSBK and MotoGP).
 
Although parts of me do want to become a soccer hooligan at times . . .

I have to say that I am getting very tired of the flopping. The least little contact and guys fall like they've been shot and hold onto a knee or ankle. It sucks when they do it for a free kick, and even more so when they try to draw a yellow against their opponent. For such a worldwide game that draws nations together, it really seems to lack honor.
