I just bought this cool Oasis bass yesterday. It's got a great looking reddish fret board with nice binding, and a made-in-Germany adjustable tailpiece that seems to be missing some knurled nuts? It's also has one wrong knob. It has Hi A unmarked pickups with passive electronics. Nice sounding. I have just started to clean it up.  I think Alembic made the bridge. It?s a very well made bass. There is next to no info on the internet about Oasis instruments made by Gary Cooper (deceased) during the seventies.  Anyone know more about it? I'll post more pics as the cleaning progresses.  Thanks, Dave

That's a beautiful bass. I love the Oasis instruments.  I've been looking for an Oasis guitar for several years now.  Congrats and enjoy the restoration process.

That indeed is lovely.  I also have been looking for a bass like that for a while.
 
I believe that bridge was made by Stars Guitars.  I also think that it is a later Oasis as the early ones had the Hi-A embossed in the pups.

Gary Cooper worked for Alembic at one time, and when we were distributed by Rothchild, so was Oasis. Gary bought parts from us and later from Stars Guitars.
 
After Oasis, he spent time as the repairman at Skip's Music in Sacramento, CA. He was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Way back when I was in high school (like '74-'75), Gary was working in the basement of a long-gone music store called Lew's Music on the K Street Mall in Sacramento. I think the first Oasis instruments were built in that shop, although I can't absolutely vouch for the veracity of 35 year old memories.

I just did a private party Sunday with it. It's kinda heavy to play and I could not really slap on it. It sounded great, though. Very 60's sounding with a clear attack. Shoot me an email if you ever want to see it. I finished cleaning it up. The control pots date to 1978 on the Oasis.  I have started gigging with my recently accquired Yamaha BX-1 headless bass. What a hoot! It sounds amazing and weighs next to nothing. Another obscure high quality instrument.  Dave
