Hmm, is this a Big Lebowski thread, because if it is, let's get it started right:

DUDE:  Another Caucasian, Gary.
VOICE: Right, Dude.

STILL STARING DOWN AT THE BAR:

DUDE: Friends like these, huh Gary.
GARY: That's right, Dude.

The pop song on the jukebox has ended; someone puts on Tumbling Tumbleweeds.

A man saunters up to the bar to take the stool that Walter vacated.  He is middle-aged, amiable, craggily handsome--Sam Elliot, perhaps.  He has a large Western-style mustache and wears denims, a yoked shirt and a cowboy hat. . .

And I thought this thread was going to be about the 3 stooges!

In the last scene of the The Big Lebowski, the Dude has solved the mystery. No one's trying to kill him. He's ready to go back to his routine.

He sits at the bar of the bowling alley with the Stranger ? the mysterious narrator who pops in and out of the story ? who tells him to take it easy.

Yeah, well. The Dude abides, says the Dude.

I don't know about you, the Stranger replies, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there ... takin' 'er easy for all us sinners.

The dude abides.  And so do I.

Just saw an ad; the Coen bros have remade True Grit with Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn & Matt Damon as La Beouf.  I normally don't go in for remakes, but I think I'll have to see this one; they've made some of the best movies ever, Jeff's cowboy hat could act better than John Wayne, and Glen Campbell is fine picker, but as an actor..........

Peter (who does, in fact, love John wayne movies - but he weren't no actor!)

My favorite trio, Peter?

'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon'
'Fort Apache'
'Rio Grande'

I'm a huge John Wayne/John Ford fan.  But, I'm crazy for 'Fargo' and 'No Country' and 'O Brother' and I'm sure the Cohens will have a take on 'True Grit' that is way beyond a simple remake.
