what a great line up this was...joni mitchel's mingus..man great stuff.. i first heard it as a young kid when i took this cd from my father's shelf...this records open playing, mysterious atmosphere and jacos sound resonated deep within every since...

If the clip is from Joni's Shadows and Light tour I can recommend buying the DVD. there are some superb tunes on there including jaco's solo.

The clip is from the Shadows and Light DVD. +1 on Jacko's statement.

It's still braggin', just incredibly justified!

That is great. Wasnt this the tour where they figured out Jaco was crazy? That is, they got  him on meds shortly thereafter. There's a kind of frenzied focus, a madness, to his playing here.

I saw this tour earlier in Providence. Jaco was not manic at all, just what we assumed was his usual amazing self. I was pretty disappointed with the Shadows and Light album and video as it sounded all coked up to me compared to the show I saw which was much gentler and more focused on Joni. Different vibe altogether. However, I've grown to really love the album and DVD since then.

I also saw Jaco about 14 months before that with Weather Report in 1978. He was amazing and there was no sign of the impending madness.

I met Jaco just before the recording of the  Standards album .The drummer  on that recording  who I had known for several years previously  brought him to the local dive with him that I had a gig at .

Jaco complemented me on my syncopated version of 'Sunshine Superman He also commented on the 71 P bass that I was playing at the time at which time I handed it to him. ( I still have that bass)  I will never forget that moment.

Correction to my above post #2503, The name of the album is  Standards Zone

Something else I seem to recall...Joni explaining that Jaco's performance at that gig wasn't typical because he'd just had a fight with his wife right before they went on. Oh no! The dreaded pre-gig fight with girlfriend/wife.

How come no one ever talks about Don Juan's Restless Daughter? Incredible album, incredible playing.
