Wow! As my mother-in-law would say: that's different! I'm not really a fan of how it looks, but I checked out some of the YouTube clips, and it definitely sounds like a bass! I don't know how I would fare with that skinny rounded neck, but the guy in the video seemed to find his way around okay!

I'll be interested to see what others have to say about it. I can think of many other instruments I could buy for 3K. I have to give the makers credit for trying something that I've never seen before!

Very Interesting indeed ! In appearance ;  A real AXE !   Or perhaps a Kingon weapon.  I would have to play it for a real opinion . The Farmer Viking Construction Worker  in me likes it ,but the musician /engineer is in the wait and see mode.  I want Alembic pickups and electronics in mine anyway .  AS I write this I admit,  that I have not watched the video yet, I shall do so next !

Talk about a small radius fretboard!

No cold weather outdoor gigs with that one.

Playing an outdoor gig during a Texas summer would turn this bass into a frying pan!

I've always like a couple of eggs over easy after a gig and a little PAM ought to take care of sticky fingers.

My band played an outdoor gig in July a couple of years ago & we made the mistake of setting up at 2 in the afternoon. Our guitar player left his EVH Wolfgang guitar in the case in the direct sunlight & the heat melted the wax in the pickups & the guitar would not play! Luckily our other guitar player had a spare guitar for him to use! He had to get the pups replaced & EVH took care of it under warranty!

Kind of the same vibe, their lap steels are what they're getting known for.

The neck radius on the Stash bass reminds me of it's indigenous african counterpart:  http://www.artichokeguitars.com/published/our_collection/dat/folk_lute_1_front_b.jpg

Wonder if they'd make an 11 string for Jean Baudin? Maybe use 8 pipe for the neck??

hankster

Well, you could put it in the oven and the handles wouldn't  melt, which is why i usually like stainless steel.

Okay,  sorry - I think my glib comment (see immediately above) might have shut down discussion about an interesting instrument.  Has anyone actually played one of these?  I can't see any advantages of stainless steel over other rigid materials except cosmetic, and I can't quite imagine what a stringed instrument without any wood would behave or feel like.

I doubt if you shut down the thread, some threads just die a natural death. :-)
