It seems that most pro players always seem to cover 'Teen Town', Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten are two that come to mind but I have never heard any cover versions of 'River People', although it may sound easy on the ear it certainly isn't on the hands!. Or any other notable bass songs featuring Jaco. Ones that come to mind are 'Punk Jazz', 'Port of Entry','Barbary Coast'
Have as anyone on here hear of anyone doing these covers or others I have not mentioned?

Not heard of anyone doing covers however Barbary Coast is probably my favorite. It just grooves.

Marcus Miller did a nice version of Portrait of Tracey, playing bass clarinet on it as well.
There is a Recording of Three Views of a Secret with Oteil Burbridge playing a beautiful intro.
Also I was actually at a live Concert once in Japan, with Victor Wooten and Oteil Burbridge and they were playing River People. It was a great Version.
There are clips on youtube of a Weather Report tribute Band featuring Scott Kinsey, Hadrien Feraud and others. They are also playing Port of Entry.

'Play that Funky Music' is the one we always cover!!! And don't forget 'Brick House'!! assuming 'pro player' means what we do for money.

Pro player...I guess we all are but what I really mean is those guys at the top end of the ladder.

Michael Manring did an astounding Teen Town on Bass Day

Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

I have a couple of CDs by the jaco pastorius Big Band featuring a host of well known bassists playing through Jaco's back catalogue. not sure if they count as 'covers' though.

Great players always inspire us mere mortals!
