I'm looking to buy my first Alembic. I've been playing a six string but I've been thinking about getting a five string and stringing it EADGC. I'm not sure what scale length would work best for this application.

Yes; standard electronics on an Orion are volume, pan, bass, treble.

I almost bid on the Orion 5. I think bidding ended today without a bid. I'm a newbie to Ebay as well as Alembics and I got spooked by the seller's lack of any feedback or history...

Prudent.  The lack of feedback is a legitimate concern.  Take your time, watch Ebay for a while and get familiar with it.  Also watch our Seen on Ebay section and watch the reactions of our members to various listings.  Get to know the things we look for in a listing.  And take your time getting to know Alembic and Alembics as well.  Spend as much time as you can reading the threads here, learning about the models, the electronics, etc.  And have fun; there's a lot of really cool people here and lots of really cool stuff to learn about.
