Thinking of selling my graphite Series 2

Hello, all
The situation with my car has gotten so bad that I'm thinking of selling one of my basses to pay for a replacement ride -- the bass in question is my '82 Small Standard, which has a koa/mahogany/maple body and short-scale graphite neck with phenolic fingerboard. Pics here:

I would be happy to provide detailed pics to seriously interested parties.
The bass is in excellent condition, suffering from no more than a few small scratches and one minor electronic issue: One of the pickup lead wires broke, which I repaired myself. Though the repair is a little sloppy, it's solid and probably easily reversed.
I no longer have the original flight case, but would include an aftermarket hardshell case or the hardshell that came with my other '82 bass. The original Blue Box power supply and cable will also be included.
These don't come up for sale too often, and the last graphite bass to hit the market commanded a substantial sale price despite the fact it was in fairly rough shape. I'll entertain offers over $5K US. I live in upstate NY, near Albany.
My e-mail address is in my profile. Thank you.

Wow !
Your Graphite SSB is my favorite one !

If I can make money...
(I am thinking to sell my Anniv.Bass etc..)

Eiji, that's the first time I've heard someone mention that particular fetish. ;-)

Don't do it!

I have the mirror image of your bass.  Mine is maple where yours is koa and vice versa.

I think you will definately regret it later.

Another graphite lover,

Believe me, even thinking about selling makes me the opposite of ecstatic but I have a family to support. You know how it is. Michael, I was actually hoping you'd be interested.
In any case, I won't be making a decision today, or tomorrow, or next week but barring a change in luck I'll have to do SOMETHING before too much longer.
Thanks for the compliments -- this is, without a doubt, the finest musical instrument I've had the good fortune to play.

She's a beauty.  I'd love to have that one as well, but what's the neck profile like?  Is it 1.75 at the nut with the standard taper?  As much as I'd love to have one and that koa top is beautiful, my hands greatly prefer the 1.5-1.6 nut widths on my SSBs.

Here's hoping you don't have to sell it!  Maybe you can negotiate a right-of-first-refusal clause into the sale with one of us regulars.  I would have no problem with that if I were to jump in.  This bass doesn't belong in the hands of some heathen or shipped to an overseas collector to rot on a wall.

kungfusheriff

The neck is wide, deep and has a generally D-shaped profile; and yes, I'm posting here and here only because if I have to sell I'd want the bass to go to a player who would appreciate it, and sell it back to me later. ;)

dela217

I would guess that the neck profile is the same as mine.  Although I would not consider mine to be wide.

I wonder if they came in different tapers, or was there just one dimension for obvious reasons.

Hmm..

If only I had the money right now...

It really stinks that you have to sell this, Shawn. I hope it goes to a good home, if you do end up letting it go.

I've been lucky enough to own two Alembics in the past, and foolish enough to sell or trade them both. Once this one arrives, it ain't gettin' away.  Kungfusheriff  2004

I know stuff happens.  But I do regret letting my 5-string Europa go.

Send me an email Shawn with the asking price.

Very sweet bass. I also think you should keep it, however if you do sell I would be interested. Let me know what the asking price is.

dwmark

I'll put a bid in.  And a couple of other members know that I'll offer it back at same price if I decide to sell.

But I share the prevailing sentiment and hope you can keep it.

Hey Bsee. there are some genuine alembic owners overseas that may be interested in the bass you know.
We are  not all heathens and collectors on this side of the big pond. Some collectors I suppose but collectors who play the basses not just hang them on the wall.

I have not used my graphite Series II in a while.  So, this thread got me thinking about it, and I took it to a gig last night.  What a great bass.

Don't sell it.  Well, I understand if that is what you have to do.  Just my opinion.

I have not used mine in a while because I really don't care for the strings on it right now. TI Jazz Flats.  They just do not work on this bass for me.  My favorites on this bass are the D'Addario Slowounds which are out of production.  I just recently did some work on this bass too.  I had to change the CVQ's since they were sooo noisy. Quite a pain to change those by the way.  I guess another reason I have not used the bass in a while.  I just got used to not bringing it out, if that makes sense.

I am going to have to post some updated pics of mine in the showcase section.
